It’s not a given that everyone is proficient with computers, yet it seems colleges expect us to be. They hand us a laptop but skip the part where they teach us how to actually use it. It’s frustrating being considered a ‘digital native’ just because I’m from Gen Z when in fact, I’m not experienced with computers.
The real lesson of college might just be learning to solve problems on your own.

Absolutely, learning to be self-sufficient is key, not just in college but beyond. It’s crucial to learn how to learn on your own.
Young people are generally expected to have basic computer skills, similar to knowing how to use a dishwasher. It would be helpful if colleges provided tutorials for those who need them.

Basic computer classes for adults could really help bridge this gap, covering things like using email, taking screenshots, and basic navigation.

I once messed up using a dishwasher by using dish soap instead of detergent. It ended up flooding the place with suds!

There are many resources available online, like YouTube tutorials, for learning basic computer skills.
Just as you learn to drive to college or use a washing machine, you’re expected to know basic computer skills by the time you reach college.

High schools often provide some basic training with devices like Chromebooks, which isn’t always the case in college.

In college, the expectation is that you take initiative to learn any basics you’re not already familiar with.

I had to learn on my own, and it was incredibly challenging. Maybe a computer class would help.

College is a higher education institution, which presumes a basic level of computer literacy.

If they don’t teach you the essentials of the devices used throughout the curriculum, how are you supposed to succeed?
