This might not be the right place to ask, but I’m looking to advance from my current role as a Data Analyst at a school district. I’ve been searching for online certifications, but most seem to require a PEL or are generally geared towards certified administrators and teachers. I enjoy my current job, but the pay is really low compared to the amount of work I do.
You cld suggest that they change your title to better match the work you’re doing. For instance, titles like Data Coordinator or Database Administrator might fit, and these specialized roles usually come with better pay.
Being a “data Analyst” is a broad title, and saying you’re paid a low salary doesn’t give that much of detail. Are you mostly working in Excel, or do you also use tools like Tableau or PowerBI? Are you creating your own data sets, and if that is the case, are you using SQL or other software? What kind of statistical analysis are you doing, if at all any?
There are actually plenty of analytics jobs in higher education having different levels of skill and experience, but the pay may or may not be better. For that case, to assist you I’d need more information to give you a more useful advice.
Sorry for being vague. I thought the job would be more of a challenge but I mostly work in Excel, compiling reports and making them look better. We have a database manager in another office who handles the database side of PowerSchool, plus there’s a new data visualization tool in PowerSchool, but I don’t really use it much.
Have you thought about transitioning into related fields such as Data Engineering or Product Management if you’re interested in different aspects of data and business.
