I need to record a 2-hour lecture tomorrow, but I don’t want the file size to be massive. I have several options: a stand-alone HD webcam, my MacBook Air’s built-in webcam, my iPhone, or a camcorder. What’s the most efficient method to create a file that’s easy to upload to Google Drive afterward? Thanks for any suggestions!
You could record in Zoom and save it to the Zoom cloud.
I’m working on an EdTech platform called SubSchool. It lets you create lectures and courses. You can check out our beta version: https://app.subschool.us/. Let me know if you have any questions!
I don’t have the paid version of Zoom, and the free one limits me to 45-minute meetings.
What tool are you referring to?
Would you consider a tool that works like this?
You provide:
- A voice sample
- Your slideshow (with presenter notes)
The tool would then create a video of “AI you” presenting the slides. It takes only a few minutes to generate the video, but it looks like you recorded it yourself. If you don’t have slides or notes, the tool can create those for you too.
If your goal is to upload it to Google Drive, try using Google Meet. It records directly to Google Drive, and you can include slides if you’re presenting any.
I’d recommend using Zoom. Share your deck and use the advanced screen-sharing feature to include your camera feed in the top right corner.
QuickTime on your Mac is a good option for recording longer lectures. You can export the file at different sizes to manage file size easily.
You can also use Microsoft Teams to record the lecture.
I’ve used OBS successfully on Windows. It’s a flexible, free tool but does take a bit of learning. After recording, you can compress the file using Handbrake, another free tool. Both are solid options:
- OBS: https://obsproject.com/
- Handbrake: https://handbrake.fr/
