What Happens If You Fail the Class but Pass the Regents?

Due to personal issues, my grades and attendance have suffered this school year. As a junior, I’ve passed the Regents exams for Earth Science, Global History, and Geometry last year, and the English exam this January.

I have upcoming Regents exams in Algebra II, Chemistry, and U.S. History in the next two weeks. I’m confident about the Chemistry and U.S. History exams, but I’m currently failing those classes with approximately 50%. If I pass the Regents exams for these subjects, will I still fail the classes?

As for Algebra II, I know I’m not passing that one.

If you fail a class but pass the Regents exam, you’ll pass the test needed for graduation, but won’t earn credit for the class itself. You might need to attend summer school or credit recovery to make up for the missed credit. Some schools adjust grades by averaging in Regents scores or replacing failing grades with passing Regents scores, which can affect graduation rates. It’s best to clarify your school’s policy with your guidance counselor.
