Tips for a 13-Year-Old Struggling with Revision

Hi, I’m looking for suggestions for a 13-year-old who finds it really difficult to revise. She’s tried all the standard methods but struggles to retain information, especially in subjects that don’t interest her naturally.

Although she’s bright, she doesn’t seem to be one of those students who naturally enjoys studying or excels in exams.

Does anyone have tips or strategies that could help her make studying more engaging and effective?

Studying can be challenging for a 13-year-old, especially if they don’t enjoy the subject. To make learning easier, try turning study sessions into games using flashcards or quizzes. Visual aids like pictures and diagrams can also help. It’s important to take short breaks and practice what they’ve learned. Additionally, having a quiet study area and getting enough sleep can improve their focus.

When my younger cousin struggled with revising at 13, despite being bright, we tried various strategies to make studying more engaging and effective. We discovered that using interactive methods like educational apps and online games related to her subjects helped maintain her interest. Breaking study sessions into shorter, focused periods with regular breaks, known as the Pomodoro Technique, improved her retention. Additionally, incorporating visual aids like mind maps and flashcards, and encouraging her to teach back the material to someone else, made learning more dynamic. Finally, we found that connecting the subjects to her interests and real-world applications made the material more relatable and engaging.

Use interactive methods like quizzes and educational games.
