But school is supposed to prepare students for the professional world, where there are often dress standards. It’s important to teach them what’s appropriate, while also allowing some room for personal expression.

I prefer relaxing dress codes. Dress codes are often sexist and infringe on personal expression. We expect men to control themselves around women in everyday life, so why not in schools?

I understand that, but dress codes also teach boys that it’s not their responsibility to control their behavior. We should be teaching them that they can and should act respectfully no matter what someone is wearing.
