How are you currently tracking attendance? Software, Google Sheets, or something else?

Hey everyone,

I’m curious to know if anyone here is using specific software or maybe even simple solutions like Google Sheets for tracking attendance. I’d love to hear your experiences and any challenges you’ve encountered along the way. Thanks in advance for sharing!

I can’t imagine doing this at any kind of scale without a student information system (SIS) to manage everything.

Thanks for the input! I understand the importance of a robust SIS for larger operations. I’m more curious about any gaps or specific needs that existing systems might not fully cover. Appreciate your perspective!

Agreed. Isn’t this usually done through a centralized MIS?

@LAUREE
Exactly! Centralized MIS solutions are pretty standard. I’m just curious if there are specific scenarios where additional tools might help, especially when certain needs aren’t fully met by MIS.

100% done via an SIS. No one tracks attendance manually, especially with all the district requirements tied to it.

This is why you use an SIS.

Which SIS does your institution use? How’s your experience with it?

We use PowerSchool. It’s highly customizable, so if you have some web dev skills, you can make improvements or add features as needed.

Educational institutions often use LMS platforms like Moodle or Blackboard, which come with built-in attendance tracking features. Do you think there’s still room for specialized tools, or do these platforms generally cover all the needs?

We just started using Alma this year and I absolutely LOVE it.
