Yes, but you can make up for being lower by studying hard
You’d definitely need at least 90 IQ to understand and memorize concepts.
I’d say one must have average intelligence to do well in school
The 85-115 scorers are anecdotally coping hard in here.
You just need to work hard. Talk to the teacher, do outside study and reading etc. There are so many resources available now on YouTube or Khan Academy for subjects you struggle with.
You just have to be able to remember information. Ability to think and figure things out? Not really
Depends which country, I noticed that it has been so dumbed down over here that they just have to follow instructions.
It helps, but having self-discipline is better.
No. Schools have very little to do with intelligence in modern America. Schools here are about conformity and obedience.
Well, school is about socialization more than academics, until you get to post secondary. Some very smart kids do poorly because no interest as it’s either too easy, boring, etc.
Not really. You just have to be smart enough to know how to cheat and do the bare minimum. The education system is a joke.
The Venn diagram of intelligence and academic achievement is really close to just being a circle. On average, one should expect kids with average intelligence to do average in school.
Yes, in order to do well in school, you have to have at least average intelligence because most of the course work is geared toward the student who is average or above intelligence. On the other hand, you do not have to be successful to do well in school Many very successful people either did poorly in school, or were college dropouts or never-attends.
Intelligence only gives you a leg up on your speed of learning. If average intelligence was a prerequisite for completing school, graduation rates would be well under 50%. Any individual that attain fluency in their language can complete any given course with enough time and effort.
Legacy ivy leaguers and having deep pockets will get through academic rigor despite your IQ
Intelligence means nothing, motivation/ambition/energy means everything. You can be the smartest person on the planet, know the answers to any question, but if you can’t put the words on paper that’s a 0%. You could be not smart at all, but put the effort in to study and prep yourself well, learn to write well, and present yourself well for a 100%. Being smart on your own sure does help, but no one expects kids to be smart, it’s why they’re in school. Motivation/ambition/energy determine how well a kid is going to do in their education
Yes, in fact you probably do best with average intelligence in school. Current public schooling and most private schools are not equipped to handle people much outside the range of ‘average’. Neural atypical or kids with learning disabilities often fall through the gaps, while really bright kids are bored and can act out.
No, because then about half of people wouldn’t do adequately in school, and a greater proportion than that observably succeeds. I think you have to be in the lowest 20% or worse to really struggle. And many people who struggle in school have other issues and don’t have low intelligence.
It’s more important to have good time management, study skills, reading skills, note-taking, and to be driven to finish with a good grade. Plenty of intelligent people flunk out in their first semester. Plenty of dumb people apply themselves, get tutored and graduate.
Depends which school you attend. Most people are average intelligence and K-12 curriculum is made for average intelligence.
