I’m in a bit of a tricky situation and could really use some advice. I graduated in April in Utah with a degree in Elementary Education, and I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant, due in November. My husband and I would love to move to Texas to be closer to family before the baby is born, but there’s a catch—his job won’t let him work fully remote from another state. He’s been job hunting since March but hasn’t had any luck yet.
If we want to move before the baby arrives, we’d need to do it by the end of September, and he’d need a job offer by mid-September. His current job would let him work fully remote for 3 months, so if we move at the end of November, he could keep working until the end of the year while continuing his job search.
I’m considering the possibility of starting a teaching job in Texas in January, even though the thought of leaving my newborn so soon is tough. I’ve also thought about substitute teaching, but I know it probably wouldn’t be enough to support our family.
My question is, how realistic is it to find a full-time teaching job in the middle of the school year in the Dallas area? Has anyone been in a similar situation or know how the job market is for mid-year hires?
Hey students, persistence is essential. Securing a January start date may be challenging, but with a proactive approach and a strong candidate profile, you can improve your chances of landing a teaching position in Dallas.
You’re in a tough spot! Balancing family, career, and relocation is stressful. Finding a teaching job mid-year in Dallas is definitely challenging but not impossible. Schools often have unexpected vacancies due to various reasons.
In the bigger districts, there will be vacancies. Not sure what the process is like to be certified in Texas when coming from another state, but maybe something to look into if you haven’t already.
