I’m looking for software/website/app to help create assessments such as tests that aren’t tied to an LMS. Yes, I know I can give tests in Canvas, but I don’t want to. #canvasisthedevil.
I tried Formative, but they’ve moved to paid plans, and now I can’t even do partial credit without upgrading. Edulastic is another option, but I find the platform not user-friendly at all.
Are there any alternatives similar to these? I don’t want to use Google Forms. Ideally, I’d like it to track data like student progress and individual question performance to help me track standards.
I have a web app with test creation features. It may not fully meet your needs yet, but I’m expanding on it. I’d love to hear more about the features you’re looking for.

The main features I need:
Functionality: It has to be user-friendly, aesthetically appealing, and reliable.
Data tracking: I’d like to track individual progress as well as specific question performance. If I can tag questions by standards (e.g., Common Core), that would be ideal for tracking student progress on specific skills.
Question variety: Matching, drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, essays, etc., for differentiation among students.

That’s super helpful! I’ll be focusing on improving the data tracking feature. I’m also considering using AI to generate questions from content—would you use that or prefer to create them yourself? Also, what do you think would be a fair price for a service like this?
My main issue with Edulastic is how it organizes questions. I tried creating a test, but everything was dumped into one big pool of questions, even after trying to add instructions. I prefer platforms like Formative, where each test is self-contained.

You’re not using it correctly. Edulastic is great for assessing specific standards, and you can create self-contained quizzes. I’ve been using it for five years almost daily with my students.
You might want to try Quiz/Survey/Test (QST) at qstonline.org. It’s open-source, free, and can be installed on a desktop, server, or cloud. It even supports importing questions from Canvas zips and offers detailed question-by-question performance tracking.
