Your kids school lunch is subsidized by the Feds. That money will be gone soon. So I think catering is the best way forward—so does Linda—but free WWE.
It comes from the Department of Agriculture, DoD, and state funding, not the Department of Education. They haven’t talked about cutting those federal departments yet.

Says a lot about people that This isn’t the top comment. Again, this is why whichever nation destroying America through disinformation works; the possibilities are endless. Not so much with the truth.
In my district, the vegetable of the day is usually tater tots. Lmao.
I’d be more concerned about the end of DE title grant funding which subsidizes the salaries of most poor/low income school teachers and extended SPED teachers and services.
1.9 billion given to states to direct at poor school districts—paused or deleted. That’s something to fight against.
USDA Food program—no one is coming after the USDA directly
@Blair
Was going to school for my sped degree and also working in a school. I have changed my major because things are already bad, it’s only getting worse. Threatening my loan forgiveness was the last straw. I need a job that makes a livable wage, especially if I have loans to repay.
I’m not sure I know if I’m fear mongering or not. Let’s see what happens. The issue is—as far as I’m concerned—is that there is no plan to accommodate these big changes.

And worse, there’s no plan for what will be changed. Hang on. We’re in for a shitty ride.

You are, because there’s no reason to believe the USDA will be closed
Not to mention that a lot of those free lunches purchase food from farmers. What happens when that market goes away for the farmers? Farmers get a lot of subsidies from the government when the government buys food or pays farmers not to farm.

Why do they do this?
To avoid overproduction and a crashing of food prices. It keeps food prices artificially high.
That money may be gone but if it goes to the states, other money will replace it. Stop fear mongering.

Other money from which agency? Creating a new agency to do the same thing the DoE does isn’t getting rid of anything, just renaming it.
@sheldon
The agency will be a state agency, not a federal one. My taxes to my state will stay in my state.

So state tax increases to fund a new agency and lunches. Got it.
@sheldon
Why a new agency? Michigan already has a Department of Education. And my state taxes may increase, they may not. But I’m betting my overall taxes decrease.

It will take more people to do the work. Who will pay for the food?
And do you think federal income tax rates are going to go down if the DoE is eliminated?
@sheldon
I have no idea if federal taxes will go down. They should, now that Trump is talking about dropping DOE and Musk and Vivek have the DOGE. Quit giving money to other countries since the US is $35,000,000,000,000 in debt. Cut, cut, cut. I liked the theory of a businessman running the country before but the swamp bogged him down. He’s smarter now so I hope the Feds don’t need to steal as much from us.
I’m not understanding “it will take more people to do the work”. Government (federal, state and local) needs to spend our stolen tax dollars much better with semblance of accountability. The DoD failing its 7th consecutive audit is ridiculous. Heads need to roll.
